Graduate Collection Booklet

Emma Bassols embarked on her journey into Fashion Design at the age of 18. Over the subsequent years, she discovered the profound significance of self-expression through clothing. Upon completing her studies, she felt compelled to create a collection that symbolized the union of her mature self and the everlasting essence of her childhood.

In her graduate collection, ‘Self-Amity,’ Emma marks the culmination of her journey into adulthood as a woman. The collection is a testament to her desire to offer attire that resonates with a sense of youth, establishing a connection with one’s inner child. Through ‘Self-Amity,’ Emma sought to seamlessly blend shapes and textures. Reflecting on her childhood, she identified inspiring characteristics in clothing and creatively integrated traditional ‘feminine’ and ‘masculine’ fashion elements. Designed for her 22-year-old self and her childhood self, ‘Self-Amity’ is an ode to those seeking a touch of youth in their wardrobe, fostering a connection with their inner child. It stands as a dedication to individuals yearning for self-harmony within.

5th Semester Collection

In ‘A Spectacle in Time’ Emma Bassols delves into the diverse dynamics of women in contemporary society, capturing the essence through five distinct characters, each struggling with the relentless passage of time. In this collection she wanted to explore her creative pattern-making skills, as well as a variety of fabrics and textures, carefully chosen to symbolize the diverse characters and personalities that served as inspiration. The color palette with the delicate bright pink, coarse orange and mahogany, and the burgundy synthetic leather mirrors a fusion of colors and textures, drawing inspiration from flames and its residues.

4th Semester Collection

In her collection titled ‘The Green Flash,’ Emma Bassols found inspiration in the old sailor’s tale of a green flash appearing on the horizon as the last rays of the sun flicker over the open sea. Growing up in a sailing environment, Bassols sought to capture the essence of sailing attire, the color palettes, and the shapes of the ocean in her designs. The collection’s color palette draws from the hues of the ocean and skies during sunset and dawn, featuring blues, purples, and hints of green that echo the tale that inspired her. She wanted to be able to incorporate elements like harnesses in this collection, since they are an elemental piece for sailors safety at sea, drawing inspiration from her own experiences spending hours wearing them. In “The Green Flash” she also explored new fabric manipulations to mimic the weaving patterns of the open sea.

With this collection she aimed to create pieces with a sporty resemblance to sailing attire mixed with the delicate and unique details inspired by the ocean.

The Swan

In her first-semester project, Emma Bassols transformed donated upcycled bedsheets from hotels into an avant-garde piece. Drawing inspiration from the ‘Swan Lake’ tale, she crafted this sculptural piece using a combination of a hula hoop, corset boning, and metal wires. The structure was then intricately covered with white cotton ribbons meticulously stripped from the repurposed bedsheets, and palced in the structure following a thoughtfully designed pattern.
